For more than 40 years the Citadel Mall has been a proud member of the Colorado Springs community hosting and sponsoring hundreds of special events. Colorado Springs is the second-largest city in the state of Colorado and is seventy miles south of Denver and forty miles north of Pueblo, Colorado. Colorado Springs has been rated as one of the best and healthiest cities in America over the years. We also enjoy a reputation as a very technology friendly employer with many high tech companies calling, “The Springs” home. Our city attracts major employers as well as hundreds of not-for-profit organizations employing nearly 13,000 people with an annual payroll of over $55 million. Colorado Springs has a long history with the United States Olympic Committee and is home to the U.S. Olympic training center and their newly established headquarters in the downtown area.
Colorado Springs has had a tremendous relationship with the Armed Forces beginning with the construction of Camp Carson in 1941, followed by Peterson Air Force Base in 1942. During the next three decades, the region was selected for the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1954, the North American Air Defense (NORAD) in 1996, and the Falcon Air Force Base and the Consolidated Space Operations Center in the1980s. Today, military and defense-related industries contributed over $2 billion to the local economy. More than 40,000 people work at the local installations and approximately 100,000 jobs are defense-related. Almost 25 percent of personal incomes are military-related, including 28,000 retirees receiving over $94 million in retirement benefits annually.
Colorado Springs is a major tourist destination, famous for the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the Garden of the Gods and thousands of acres of State and National park lands. Over 300 days of sunshine are enjoyed by all that spend time in The Springs.
